With that in mind, is there enough being done to make the nation’s means of public transport accessible for disabled people and the elderly? Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes has launched a wheelchair-accessible Wheelyboat: the first fully accessible power boat to operate at this outdoor activity centre, strengthening existing provisions for people with disabilities. 

Two charities, The Wheelyboat Trust and Action4Youth, workied together on the project, to provide young people with mobility impairments with the ability to participate fully in water-based activities at this centre.

Wheelchair-accessible holiday accommodation centre Calvert Trust Kielder has joined forces with respected artist and interior designer Anne Curtis to revamp a suite. 

A former quarter-finalist on BBC 2’s The Great Interior Design Challenge, Anne has worked with the award-winning centre’s dedicated team to re-design The Gallery Corridor, consisting of five rooms each with a nature theme to highlight the local wildlife at Kielder Water and Forest Park. 

This is the first time Calvert Trust Kielder has partnered with an interior designer with all parties hoping to mirror the success of the centre's collaboration with architect and TV personality George Clarke  (Amazing Spaces) for its hugely popular ‘Sky Den’ accommodation.

Revitalise receives world first accessible German beach chair


Charity Revitalise receives world first World’s first accessible German beach chair donated to disabled people’s charity by Lower Saxony with the German National Tourist Office 

The world’s first and only accessible strandkorb – a traditional German covered beach chair – was presented to the disabled people’s charity Revitalise by Lower Saxony, Germany, in co-operation with the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) at a ceremony in London yesterday. The unique, accessible strandkorb, which enables a wheelchair user to sit in comfort, sheltered from the elements, in the company of non-disabled friends and/or carers, was created by Lower Saxony to promote its commitment to fully accessible tourism in Germany. 

Hearing loss charity encourages people to be proactive about their communication needs

The UK’s largest hearing loss charity Action on Hearing Loss is urging the 9million people in England who are deaf or have hearing loss to tell their GP what support they need to help them communicate

The call to the public comes as the charity launches its new campaign, ‘On the Record’, just under three weeks before the NHS England’s mandatory Accessible Information Standard comes into full force.
